About Bart Shulman …
I see clients both in person in San Francisco, at either our Castro clinic or our Union Square office. I also provide telehealth services as a Board-Certified TeleMental Health Provider (BC-TMH). Through telehealth, I’m able to work with clients in thirteen U.S. states and internationally (you’ll find the full list below).
I work with individuals who are looking to deepen their self-understanding, find relief from anxiety or depression, and address a wide range of mental health challenges. I also work with couples and other relationship configurations, whatever form those relationships may take.
My therapy style is integrative and collaborative. It is grounded in Carl Rogers’ person-centered approach and informed by many years of psychodynamic psychotherapy practice. When we work together, we’ll develop a treatment approach that reflects your goals, your history, and the ways you make sense of your experiences.
I’m trained in evidence-based approaches including Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I approach substance use concerns from a harm-reduction perspective, and I often incorporate mindfulness, narrative, feminist, and interpersonal perspectives where they may be helpful.
In terms of credentials, I am a National Board-Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor (CCMHC), an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). I also hold board certification as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor Licensed for Independent Practice (CMHC-IND) through the American Mental Health Counselors Association.
